"Has the end of Greece come? A Greece without Greeks"
For the first time in the history of our country, in the first quarter of 1998 the deaths exceeded the births by 4.514. The demographic problem has already taken nightmarish dimensions, since the fertility index is at 1.2%, while just for the renewal of the population it should have been at 2.1%. The following table shows the dramatic decrease of pupils and elementary schools in the last years.
The Greece of the (immediate) future will not be a Greece without Greeks, but also full of foreigners: today already a significant percent of births, which is estimated to be over 20%, are births of foreigners who are in Greece as illegal immigrants (lathrometanastes). Some indicative numbers are the following:
• In the last year in the Athens municipality were registered 9.700 births of Greeks and 4.300 of foreigners.
• In the central maternity clinic "Alexandra" were born 1.452 Greeks and 2.261 foreigners.
In the schools, the picture is speaking for itself:
• In the central 36th Elementary School of Athens on the Strephi Hills were registered this year 255 pupils, and of them 148 are foreigners.
• In the first grade of the same school were registered 22, and of them 15 are foreigners and only 7 are Greeks.

An exception to the general picture of low birthrate are the muslims of Western Thrace. For them the Statistical Department has no precise data, but given their high birthrate, it is certainly a considerable number.
What is left as Greeks? Under 70.000 births per year. Already the army has a significant shortage of manpower, though only Greeks born before 1980 are now enlisted, when the annual births exceeded 150.000. One can only imagine the irreplacable vacancies with less than 70.000 births. The size of the problem is unfortunately enormous.
